Step Three - Target Audience
Before you start writing, another important thing to think about is the target audience that you are going to be writing for, especially if there is a particular group that you are wanting to aim towards.
Try not to get too bogged down with the age label of your book as you can always work out what age group or gender it fits best with once you have completed it.
I have found that sometimes thinking that you are writing for children can be too restrictive and it makes you ‘dumb down’ some of the vocabulary that you would have used. It ends up breaking you out of the writing flow as you get too hung up on whether a child will know or understand what you have written.
