Step Eight - Promotion Help

One thing that is apparent when you self-publish is that you are very much on your own. You cannot just expect to put up your book on the Amazon marketplace and by the next day have an inundation of sales. I mean you might be lucky and that is great, but most of us mere mortals have to work at it. It might be slow at first and there may be lulls for days at a time but all you have to keep in mind is promote, promote, promote!

By choosing to self-publish you have signed yourself not only up for the writing but all the decisions on distribution and more importantly the marketing and promotion side of things that would have been dealt with by your publisher had you been successful in taking your novel down this route.

Sometimes the marketing and promotion of your novel seems to be a more tedious endeavour than the writing process itself.

That is why I would say it is good to start a following on social media as soon as you can, even before you are anywhere close to the release date of your book.

You can do this by communicating with other authors or avid readers on various social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. to get yourself a sort of support group for when you are ready to release your début novel.

They hopefully will have been interested from the tidbits of information that you have provided them over time about your upcoming book and so when the time comes the 'retweeting' and 'liking' frenzy can begin.
